History of Renner Middle School

Renner Middle School is named after the historic Renner community, a rural settlement established in the late 1800s along a railroad line in what is now North Dallas. Education has long been central to the community. The original Renner School, established in the late 19th century, served students in a single-room-style building where younger grades met downstairs and older students met upstairs. Like many early Texas schools, attendance often followed the agricultural calendar, as students balanced school with responsibilities at home.

The historic Renner School was later relocated to Dallas’ Old City Park, where it remains preserved today as a reminder of the area’s early commitment to education.

Renner Middle School opened in 1990 in the former Shepton High School building. In the fall of 1998, the school moved to its current campus on Parker Road, while the original Shepton facility was renovated and returned to use as a high school. Today, Renner Middle School continues a long-standing tradition of learning rooted in community and history.
