I have been a nurse for 20 years, a school nurse for 6 years. When I worked bedside nursing, I specialized in neonatal ICU, pediatric ICU, and pediatric cardiovascular ICU and worked all across the south as a travel nurse for several years. The health and safety of my students and staff is my top priority. I've linked the district's websites down below for specifics like asthma and allergies for your convenience. New action plans are required at the start of every school year. Incoming 7th graders require a Tdap booster and the first meningococcal vaccine before their school year begins. Please contact me with any questions you may have!

Important Texas Law Update

Senate Bill 12 went into effect as of 9/1/2025. This bill requires written parental/guardian consent for physical and mental health services while at school. For Plano ISD, this written consent is to be completed during annual enrollment through Skyward. As the consents weren’t ready before this school year began, the forms can be found on Skyward as of 8/28/2025. Once you log in to Skyward, you’ll see a new tile titled “School Health-Related Services”. That will take you to a page that explains the consents, and has 2 drop down sections – one for physical health (clinic), and one for mental health (counseling). Please note – it is not an automatic opt-in. If these consents aren’t completed, when students come to the clinic, I will have to send them to the front office to call you. Once you’ve granted your consent, I can see them as usual. If you decline consent, a critical alert will be placed on your student’s profile stating they’re not to be seen in the clinic and/or counseling suite and should be sent to the front office to call you instead. The exception to this consent process is life-saving measures, of course. If your student comes to the clinic in significant distress, I will assess them.

Notes from the Nurse

  1. District Policy states, “Students must be symptom free (without medication) from communicable illnesses for 24 hours before returning to school.” This includes fever, vomiting, and diarrhea.
  2. We do not have any medications for congestion, allergies, diarrhea, cramps, coughing, sneezing, or pain. If your child is having symptoms at home in the morning, it is not likely that s/he will just get better. Try to address the problem before your child comes to school, and do everything you can to get her/him to eat breakfast.
  3. Injuries and illness that take place outside of school hours should be evaluated by your personal medical provider. If you question whether something is serious enough to require a doctor visit, it probably is.
  4. Provide up to date information about your child’s medical conditions and any medications s/he takes. Your openness about your child’s medical conditions will help me to make good judgments and determinations about her/his care. Please contact me directly about any changes in your child’s health.
